About HYCC
Hawthorne Youth and Community Center is a grassroots, non-profit that has been responsive to community needs for over forty years. The center, the brainchild of a small group of concerned community youth and adults, began in a converted coal cellar in 1967. Three years later operations moved to a larger Roxbury facility at 9 Fulda Street, a building on an Archdiocese owned complex. In 1973, they formally incorporated as Hawthorne Youth & Community Center (HYCC).

100k for 100: We Got the Cummings Grant!
Cummings Foundation awards $10 million each year through its $100K for 100 grant program. This place-based philanthropic initiative primarily supports nonprofits in the Massachusetts counties where the Foundation and its founders originally derived their funds and where staff and clients of the Cummings organization live – Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk County.
Begun in 2012 as a pilot program with 60 grants, $100K for 100 has since announced 100 grants of $100,000 each, annually. You can learn more about the Cummings Foundation at: https://www.cummingsfoundation.org .
We were selected along with 99 other organizations to provide programming to residents and youth of Roxbury in Literacy, The Arts, Horticulture Healing, Urban Agriculture, STEAM, Youth Development and Health & Wellness.
